MANIPULATION OF NATURE

Five works of art in different media on the theme of 'human manipulation of nature'.

1. Aerial footage of mono-culture crop fields and suburbs in Illinois, just West of Chicago.

The demarkation of land into rectangular plots is challenged by the irregular lines of natural watersheds.

2. Mountain (iceberg) of wet biology notes.

Trees become the paper where take notes about the molecules within trees in a sealed room sitting on a chair made of tree. Hundreds of trees have been killed for my education into their live. The notes ooze in a pile of uncomfortable wetness with this irony.

Defying natural seasonal cycles, pristine strawberries glow with GMOs in the middle of Winter.

4. Worm in a glass vial.

Taken from its home for the spectacle of this art piece, the worm died in transit.

5. Time-lapse of tulips wilting and un-wilting in constant loop on iPad. 

Human conceptualization of 'beauty' leads us to take some natural beings (but definitely not others) into our personal space where they slowly die and are then replaced.
